The Royal Navy Submarine Museum, based at Haslar in Gosport, offers the unique opportunity to explore a real World War II submarine and more.

You can trace the history of submarine development, from Alexander the Great to the giant nuclear powered Vanguard class of the present day.

The Museum also serves as the Regimental Headquarters for past submariners, housing a large collection of photographs, transcripts, artifacts and archive material.

The Gosport Buzz Review

We live locally in Alverstoke and visited the submarine museum for the first time on one of the Heritage Open Days during September 2006.

As a woman, I must admit I wasn't enthralled at the idea of visiting a museum full of submarines and unknown metal objects but I thoroughly enjoyed it once I'd got there! The submarine tour was great and very interesting and informative but not for the claustrophobic since you can hardly move once inside. It was a real eye-opener and I take my hat off to anyone who has ever served as a submariner, it must be a tough life down there.

All in all, there's a quite a lot to see at the museum and the young grandkids enjoyed it too so I would recommend it.

Cindy - January 2009
