Working as a full-time freelance Makaton tutor, I provide training to establishments and groups in Gosport, Fareham and all over Hampshire and the South Coast. I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1984, and up until 2008, worked for the Health Service as a Principal Speech and Language Therapist.

What is Makaton?

Used extensively in early years and education settings, Makaton signing has been proven to support and encourage communication skills in children with additional needs with the use of signs, symbols and speech. Makaton can only be delivered by licensed tutors who have been trained by the Makaton Charity and attend regular tutor refresher days.

Makaton Workshops

As an experienced tutor, I offer a wide range of Makaton Workshops designed to meet your individual needs.

Workshops vary from 2 hour taster sessions to full two day courses. All workshops are practically based and can be delivered as flexible modules, including in the evenings and at weekends. Courses can also be tailored to meet needs of specific settings or groups of families.

Makaton for Babies & Toddlers

Recent research from the USA and Canada found that babies who use gestures early on learn to speak more readily than babies who do not. Reported benefits also include improved attention and social skills.

Baby signing sessions are designed to help families, carers and staff to use gestures with babies and young children through songs and play activities. The best stage for a baby to attend sessions with his or her parents is from about 6 months old, but older toddlers also enjoy the sessions. You will learn approximately 100 signs in a setting aimed at providing fun for the both of you!
